CSTE Water Management Program (WMPs) Evaluation Tool

CSTE's Legionnaires’ Disease WMPs Evaluation Subgroup, with the assistance of the public health consulting firm Hutton Health Consulting LLC, developed an evaluation tool for jurisdictions to use as part of their Legionella prevention and control activities. This tool provides a standardized approach to evaluate a facility/building's WMPs to determine if it comports with existing standards developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the CDC WMPs Toolkit. Water systems, particularly in larger buildings, have a high risk of providing a suitable environment for Legionella growth and spread, and WMPs are an important strategy for reducing the risk of legionellosis.

Lesson 1

By the end of the lesson, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe Water Management Programs (WMPs) and their importance for reducing the risk for Legionella growth in building water systems.
  2. Describe the basic elements of a WMPs.
  3. Describe the functionality of CSTE's WMPs Evaluation Tool.
