The Reportable Conditions Knowledge Management System (RCKMS) Authoring Tool training e-learning course is a series of on-demand, self-paced training modules designed to provide participants with foundational knowledge on how to use and navigate the RCKMS Authoring Tool. The RCKMS Authoring Tool training course is intended for anyone from state, tribal, local, or territorial public health agencies responsible for authoring, managing, and/or updating jurisdiction-specific reporting criteria used in electronic case reporting. There are seven lessons for participants to view. Each lesson has an accompanying Quick Tips available as a desk reference.  The Quick Tips summarize the major learning points or outline the specific instructional how-to steps. CSTE developed the original content of the training course with assistance from J Michael Consulting.

Lesson 1: RCKMS Authoring: The Big Picture

By the end of the module, participants will be able to:

1. Describe how RCKMS relates to electronic case reporting.
2. Explain what it means to author within the tool.
3. Summarize what it means to go-live.
4. Recognize some common misconceptions about authoring.
5. Identify where their jurisdiction stands with authoring.

Lesson 2: Getting Started With Authoring

By the end of the module, participants will be able to:

1. Understand how RCKMS default content is developed.
2. Identify what they may need to prepare for authoring.
3. Access tool notification messages.
4. Recognize how and when to submit a ticket.
5. Navigate the Authoring Interface with ease.

Lesson 3: RCKMS Testing Tools: Test Cast Manager

By the end of the module, participants will be able to:

1. Differentiate between the two RCKMS testing modules.
2. Determine when to use the Test Case Manager testing options.
3. Use the Test Case Manager with greater confidence and understanding.

Lesson 4: RCKMS Testing Tools: Shared Service Submission Tool

By the end of the module, participants will be able to:

1. Differentiate between the two RCKMS testing modules.
2. Determine when to use the Shared Service Submission Tool.
3. Use the Shared Service Submission Tool with greater confidence and understanding.

Lesson 5: Reporting Specifications: Exploring Sufficient, Necessary, and Optional Notations

By the end of the module, participants will be able to:

1. Navigate the reporting specifications grid with greater understanding.
2. Differentiate between the Sufficient, Necessary, and Optional notations.
3. Apply the Sufficient, Necessary, and Optional notations as needed when authoring reporting specifications.

Lesson 6: Micro-Training: Publishing Reporting Specifications in RCKMS 

By the end of the module, participants will be able to: 

1. Publishing reporting rules in RCKMS  
2. Understand how the two-step authoring process applies to publishing reporting rules 

Lesson 7: RCKMS Reports: Authoring Status & Condition Details

By the end of the module, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the two reports currently available in RCKMS.
2. Demonstrate how to run each report. 
3. Recognize when and why a user may want to use the reports.
